The national joint local bioengineering lab for zoonosis was approved by theNational Development and Reform Commission to construct, which is key research basis for zoonosis in Guangdong province and south China area. The lab was constructed basing on Key Prevention and Control Lab for Zoonosis of Guangdong Province, Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Veterinary Pharmaceutics Development and Safety Evaluation, Key Lab for Zoonosis of Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Key Laboratory of Animal Vaccine Development of the Ministry of Agriculture, National Reference Laboratory of Veterinary Drug Residues (SCAU), National Risk Assessment Laboratory for Antimicrobial Resistance of Animal Original Bacteria. The lab with 2000 square meters has perfect facilities and conditions, poses Animal Biosafety Level 3 Laboratory of South China Agricultural University which was examined by Ministry of Science and Technology and certificated by the China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment(CNAS) and approved by Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.

There are 33 personals in lab, of which, 16 professors are different level talents such as “the national science fund for distinguished young scholars”, “New Century Talent Supporting Project by Education Ministry”, “Millions of Talents Project”, “distinguished professor for the Pear River Scholars in Guangdong Province”.

 The lab obtained 2 first-class prizes of national scientific and technological progress award, 30 provincial awards and published 800 papers (including 287 SCI paper). The lab got 6 national new veterinary drug certifications and 45 invention patents. Inactivated vaccine for avian influenza (a series of products), inactivated vaccine for new castle disease, drug against avian respiratory disease, drug against coccidiosis, soluble florfenicol etcetera were transformed into products and created 3 billion RMB economic benefits.
