The Guangdong provincial key laboratory of veterinary pharmaceutics development and safety evaluation was established in 2001 with an initial investment of 2.5 million RMB yuan funded by the Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province. In the performance evaluation of provincial key laboratories in 2014, the laboratory achieved excellent level and obtained additional 3 million RMB yuan financial funding. Based on Guangdong province and looking forwards the domestic and overseas, the laboratory devotes to create a leading research base for the development and safety evaluation of veterinary pharmaceutics via cultivating professional talents and promoting output of achievements.  

1. Research fields

The laboratory mainly focuses five research directions: (1)  pharmacokineticsand pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamics modeof veterinary pharmaceutics; (2) antimicrobial resistance surveillance and resistance mechanism; (3) new methods and technologies for detection of veterinary drug residues and forbidden drugs; (4) development of novel antimicrobial and antiviral agents and related formulations; (5) ecological toxicology of veterinary drugs and additives in the environment.

2. Research team

The laboratory has 26 fixed members dominated by young and middle-aged scientists. Among them, 13 members are professors, including one obtainer of ChangJiang Scholars Program and two obtainers of National Outstanding Youth Funds. Since it’s foundation, the laboratory has undertaken a number of research programs including the National Key Research and Development Programs of China, General Programs/Key Programs of National Natural Science Foundation of China, Innovation team project of Ministry of Education of China and et al. At present, totally 32 Ph.D program students and 146 master program students are doing research works in the laboratory, majoring in Basic Veterinary Medicine and Veterinary Pharmacy. In addition, the laboratory possesses one mobile postdoctoral station.

The first director of the laboratory was Prof. Chen Zhangliu. Now Prof. Zeng Zhenling is incumbent director and Prof. Liu Yahong and Prof. Chen Jianxin act as vice-directors.
