Key Lab for Zoonosis of Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs was established by relying on College of Veterinary Medicine, South China Agricultural University , in December, 2016. CVM is one of earliest units training high-level talents in China, and is a authorization point for doctoral fellowship as first discipline, of which, veterinary discipline is fist-class discipline and key promoting discipline in Guangdong province, preventive veterinarymedicine is national key discipline. Animal Biosafety Level 3 Laboratory certificated by the National Development and Reform Commission, and was approved by Ministry of Ministry of Science and Technology and Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs in 2016 to do research on highly pathogenic microbes. Center for animal disease diagnosis of SCAU was certificated by nations and is the first college to carry out CNAS accreditation in this field. CVM of SCAU is one of units earliest approved by Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs to do research on influenza viruses, and made great contributions against avian influenza and SARS. Many pathogens were firstly reported by CVM in China. CVM also is one of units earliest to do research on drug dynamics, ecotoxicology, drug residues and was approved by domestic and foreign counterparts on solving major public health problems, food safety problems and production practice problems.
Research of the lab focus on tree aspects:
(1) Ecology and epidemiology of zoonotic disease
(2) Pathogenicity and immune mechanism
(3) Emergency preparation and comprehensive technology for zoonotic disease
There are 30 personals in the key laboratory of zoonosis of th ministry of agriculture and rural affairs, including 14 professor, 10 associate professor and 6 faculty with medium-grade professional title. Of which, two professors obtained the national science fund for distinguished young scholars, 1 was elected in New Century Talent Supporting Project by Education Ministry, 1 was selected for “Millions of Talents Project”, 2 were employed as distinguished professor for the Pear River Scholars in Guangdong Province. And the others were selected for different level talents. This is a united, innovative, vigorous and influential academic team.
In the past five years, the lab got more than 400 fundings with over 80 million RMB, including the national science fund for distinguished young scholars, national basic research program of china (973 program), international science and technology cooperation special project, 13th five-year national key research and development plan project, agricultural industry special public welfare project, etc. The lab obtained 35 patents and 6 national new veterinary drug certifications as well as 5 software works. The lab got 2 first-class prizes of national scientific and technological progress award, 18 provincial awards and published 275 SCI papers.
Transformation of scientific and technological achievements, the inactivated vaccine for avian influenza , detoxification drug for kidney swollen and other biological products developed by the key laboratory for zoonosis of the ministry of agriculture and rural affairs have become popular products , of which including avian influenza inactivated vaccine (H9 subtype, SS strain), Newcastle disease virus vaccine (Lasota strain), avian influenza virus (H9 subtype, SS strain) duplex inactivated vaccines, Newcastle disease, infectious bronchitis, avian influenza (H9 subtype) triple inactivated vaccines (Lasota strain, M41strain and SS strain), avian influenza inactivated vaccine (H5N2 subtype, D7 strain), the H5 subtype virus inactivated vaccines (D7 strain, rD8 ), and genetic engineering vaccine for rabies (dG strains) were obtained the new veterinary drugs certification.
These products were authorized for many companies to product and make earn of several hundred millions RMB, and increase 3 billions RMB income for husbandry industry, and create huge ecnomics benifts for society, annually.
The director of the lab is professor Liao Ming, main academic leaders are professor Liu Jianhua, professor Feng Yaoyu and professor Deng Yiqun.
